OBD Mode 06 Non-Continuous Monitor Results

Mode 06 reads non-continuous onboard monitor test results reported by the vehicle ECU. OBD CAN queries supported identifiers and presents returned test/component IDs, values and limits. Depending on the ECU, these may cover misfire, catalyst, EVAP, EGR or oxygen-sensor monitors. This is not a live dashboard or emissions inspection.

What the result table contains

For recognized tables, the app displays TID, CID, current, minimum and maximum values plus PASS or FAIL. It compares the current value with returned limits; when there is no upper limit, only the lower bound applies. Other vehicles return a test/reference pair or raw bytes. Values may lack physical units, so raw numbers are not comparable across vehicles or test IDs.

How to read Mode 06 results

  1. Connect a compatible OBD-II Bluetooth adapter, sign in and open Non-Continuous Monitor Test. Premium membership is required.
  2. Tap Read Monitor Test Info. The app queries ECU support and requests available Mode 06 values.
  3. Review returned labels and tables. Note each TID/CID, current value, limits and status; only some items may be available.
  4. Refresh or copy/export the report for discussion. Results are saved in local diagnostic history.

Illustrative example: follow up on a drivability concern

Suppose a driver feels occasional hesitation but has no warning light. They read Mode 06 and see an available monitor near its limit or marked FAIL. They note the TID/CID and ask a technician to confirm its vehicle-specific definition and inspect related systems or codes. This can guide a discussion, but cannot prove a component failed, identify the cause or rule out other problems.

Vehicle support and interpretation limits

Coverage depends on ECU support, model year, monitor state, adapter and returned data. A vehicle may provide some readable results, partial data or none. Missing is not a pass. TID/CID names and limits vary by vehicle, and values may be raw. Mode 06 differs from Mode 01 readiness, Mode 05 results and live O2 waveforms. It does not guarantee inspection results. Sign-in and Premium are required.

Frequently asked questions

Does Mode 06 stream live values?

No. It reads ECU-reported monitor test results. Use the dashboard for supported live OBD data.

What does FAIL mean?

For a recognized row, current value is outside returned limits. Confirm the definition and service information.

Is Mode 06 a readiness or emissions pass result?

No. Readiness is separate; Mode 06 does not replace tailpipe testing or local rules.
